Bridgework

Dr. Cain performs bridgework for selected cases in conjunction with implant dentistry. Without the aid of dental implants, a dental bridge is generally not an effective restoration for most patients because it compromises the neighboring teeth used to secure the dental bridge in place. When used with dental implants, dental bridges can be a very effective type of restoration.

Dental implants, when properly fused to the bone, are extremely effective and long lasting. Because the implant is restored with a dental crown, there is no chance that the artificial tooth will erode or decay.

Dental Implant Case Study

Before: The patient’s two front teeth were abscessed and had to be extracted. The after: Two implants were placed where the teeth were missing, a pair of temporary crowns were placed first, then the implants were restored with porcelain dental crowns that look very undectable.

Replacing missing teeth is extremely important. Once a tooth is lost, the bone begins to deteriorate. The longer the area is exposed, the more likely the bone is to suffer significant loss. In addition, missing teeth make it difficult to speak and chew. People who have missing teeth are often embarrassed to smile and avoid social situations. Teeth are an important component in the appearance of the face and help to support the lips and cheeks, so missing teeth can make the face sag or droop, making the patient look older than they actually are.

Dental implants combined with a dental bridge can effectively and affordably replace several missing teeth and restore health, function and beauty to the smile.

Alternatives to dental bridges include dental implants and partial dentures.
