Bonding/Dental Fillings

Dental bonding is a type of direct restoration where tooth colored composite material is applied directly to the tooth, sculpted and gently polished with virtually unnoticeable results. There are several indications for dental bonding, also called composite bonding, including:

• To repair small cracks or chips
• To rebuild worn edges
• To fill small gaps between teeth
• To correct minor discoloration
• To fill cavities

Dental bonding makes an excellent tooth colored filling. Often called a “white filling”, these cosmetic restorations are the current standard in modern dentistry. Many patients with old metal fillings are choosing to have their fillings replaced with white fillings which are more comfortable and aesthetically pleasing.

Dental bonding is typically completed in a single visit. This procedure is convenient for most patients because there is little to no tooth preparation, no mold taking or temporaries and the cost is generally less than other cosmetic dental procedures.

The composite resin used in dental bonding is bio-compatible and comes in a range of tooth colored shades for flawless matching. The resin is extremely stain resistant and very durable. Dental bonding treatment can last for many years with proper care and maintenance.

Another type of dental bonding, adhesive bonding, is used to secure dental restorations, such as dental crowns, to the teeth.
